The forty winners of the prestigious British Safety Council's International Sword of Honour 2009 have been announced. The winning organisations have all been recognised as having exemplary health and safety systems that are among the best in the world. The winners will be presented with the Sword of Honour at a Ceremony in Goldsmiths' Hall, London on Friday 27th November 2009.
The Swords of Honour – widely recognised as the pinnacle of international health and safety awards – are presented to organisations who have demonstrated to an external independent adjudication panel a culture of best practice for health and safety throughout from the boardroom to the shop floor.
Organisations, in order to compete for the BSC Sword of Honour, must be able to demonstrate that their specific site has achieved the maximum rating in the BSC's Five Star Health and Safety Management System. Inaugurated in 1979, only 40 swords are awarded world-wide.
The Sword of Honour, which symbolises trust and exemplary achivement in managing health and safety, will be presented by Nina Wrighton, chairman of the British Safety Council.
