DILO Armaturen und Anlagen GmbH, headquartered in Babenhausen, Germany, has recently launched a new generation of SF6-gas handling devices. The "Economy" and "Mega" series feature some new technical characteristics and are equipped with all important functions necessary for professional SF6-gas (sulphur hexafluoride) handling. Thus, recovery and reuse of SF6 in a closed circuit without any loss of gas or emissions are possible. The service carts correspond to national and international guidelines.
A complete "SF6 service package"
DILO service carts of the new generation are designed for environmentally friendly handling of SF6-gas in commissioning and maintenance of gas insulated electrical installations. The gas handling units facilitate recovery, purification and storage of used SF6-gas in liquid form. Furthermore, with the state-of-the-art equipment gas compartments can be evacuated from air and refilled with the purified SF6-gas.
The new SF6-gas handling units are equipped with an oil-free compressor and oil-free suction pump for recovery of SF6-gas ensuring that a final vacuum as low as < 1 mbar is achieved. An oil lubricated vacuum pump is used for evacuation of air down to < 1 mbar. Compact design and ergonomic aspects were the guidelines in design: All assemblies have been newly arranged in a space saving way and can be easily accessed for maintenance.
Moreover, the new generation of service carts is provided with an intelligent and proprietary control system. Ongoing operations are displayed on a 10" touch panel by means of a functional diagram; all relevant operating and maintenance data is indicated on the panel and can be found on the system. An integrated bottle scale is part of the system and allows determining the reclaimed gas quantity.
Frequently, used SF6-gas may be contaminated with moisture or may contain solid decomposition products that impair functionality of the electrical installation. Therefore, during each recovery and filling operation, the recovered gas is automatically led through highly efficient filter units which purify and dry the gas so that it is ready for reuse under consideration of the limit values according to IEC 60480.
Various options and accessories create a specifically designed "SF6 service package". Upon request, the service carts can be supplied with an even higher performance vacuum pump and integrated storage tanks.
Closed circuit
Due to its excellent properties, SF6-gas has been used as an arc quenching and insulating gas in electrical installations with a voltage of > 1 kV such as medium and high-voltage switchgear, transformers or gas-insulated lines.
As the new generation of DILO service carts allow gas recovery down to a final vacuum of < 1 mbar, the current IEC 62271-303 regulation, stipulating a maximum of 20 mbar, is surpassed by far. "DILO's fine-tuned products substantially contribute to sustainability and environmental protection", says Rudolf Rapp, Managing Director Sales of DILO. "SF6 use and handling in a closed circuit is the maxim", Rapp underlines.
Besides gas handling carts, DILO offers a wide range of gas measuring devices that are used to determine the gas quality before and after purification. In addition, DILO supplies SF6 monitoring and warning devices for permanent control of ambient air in closed rooms. The product range is complemented by specially designed and hermetically sealing valves and couplings which create absolutely gas-tight connections and thus prevent emissions from being released into the environment.
