Wilts, the independent electrical wholesaler, has announced it has gained ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management and OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety management. Approved by ISOQAR, Dean Todd, Wilts health and safety manager has been working on achieving these accreditations for over a year.
ISO 14001 was first published in 1996 and specifies the actual requirements for an environmental management system. It applies to those environmental aspects which the organisation has control, and over which it can be expected to have an influence.
OHSAS 18001 is an international occupational health and safety management system that enables organisations to control OH&S risks and improve performance. The management system eliminates or minimises risks to employees and other interested parties associated with its activities.
Compatible with ISO 9001, the international standard for quality management that Wilts has held since 1990, means that the company works to strict guidelines and adheres to processes and controls.
Earlier this year, Dean Todd also collected the RoSPA Gold Medal Award (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
Todd commented, "As a business, we are totally committed to health and safety, the environment and to looking after our people and our customers. We are going the extra mile to get these accreditations and really the whole company is involved in this. The standards help me to reinforce the importance of safety in the workplace at the same time as reducing our carbon footprint. I'm delighted with our latest accreditations, especially so soon after our RoSPA gold medal."
