Underfloor power distribution system

Electrical Review Logo

The new and updated version of the renowned Britmac Powertrack brand for 2009 is now available from Crabtree, and is set to become an even more popular under-floor power distribution system than its predecessor. It has undergone some radical improvements, not only to meet the ever-increasing power requirements of the workplace, but also to make is easier still for contractors to install. And the whole system has been designed with a minimum number of parts, to assist the contractor fitting out on-site, where speed and ease of installation are paramount

Powertrack consists of a series of fully enclosed, single-phase busbar modules and is designed to be assembled directly onto the base slab of a cavity floor, using integral floor fixing brackets. There are push fit connectors on both the track connections and feed units, with a keying system on the track end that operates the shutter mechanism to ensure correct location.

Three specifications of track modules are available: standard 2P+E, clean Earth 2P+E+CE, and dual system 4P+E+CE. The Power track module itself is a 63Amp single-phase busbar, with the facility to accept a tap-off unit every 300mm; this allows the removal or addition of tap-off units without the need to isolate the complete system.
All modules come in standard lengths, compatible with standard floor modules and cavity floor trunking sizes.  Each length comes with an innovative method of track fixing; the fixing bracket simply swivels out to enable solid fixing to the floor screed.

The standard tap-off units comprise a 32A un-fused plug, fitted with flexible metal conduit. Where lengths longer than 3 metres are required, a fused tap-off unit can be fitted and wired with the appropriate length of cable, and the keying system always ensures that the correct tap-off is fitted. Transparent dust covers are provided to enable easy recognition of the system installed, and they slide along the track length to enable tap-off plug insertion.

A comprehensive range of fast-fit floor boxes provides a wide choice from which to select the most appropriate for a specific application, and large capacity cable routing guides ensure cables exit the box safely and neatly. All boxes have self-closing lids, and units can be supplied fitted with accessories, pre-wired to customers' requirements to save on-site installation time, all fully factory tested in the UK prior to delivery. Unobtrusive floor grommets are also available.

Britmac under-floor systems have been reliably and discreetly providing energy behind the scenes to power commerce and industry for many years, and as a result have rightly earned the respect of architects and specifiers worldwide.
