Following the recent acquisition of the UK based Blue i, Peli Products, a leader in the design and manufacture of virtually indestructible cases and advanced lighting systems, is announcing the official launch of the Advanced Area Lighting Group (AALG), a new division that will bring next generation LED technology (Light Emitting Diode) to market. The Advanced Area Lighting Group drives primary R&D to bring portable, powerful, energy-efficient and environmentally responsible lighting technology to remote area applications.
"The strength of the Advanced Area Lighting Group is its ability to utilize the wealth of knowledge gained over more than 30 years and apply it to a full time research and development team", says Lyndon Faulkner, CEO of Peli. Peli Products has been building safety flashlights for the world's most hazardous environments for over three decades, and now, after the acquisition of Blue i UK and the creation of the AALG, the company becomes the leader in lighting technologies.
Lyndon Faulkner realized that "while we have been a leader in our respective lighting field, the potential for forging new frontiers is limitless. Creating the Advanced Area Lighting Group will keep us at the vanguard of both hand held and general purpose lighting."
The Advanced Area Lighting Group's technology research not only contributes to saving energy, which is at a premium in today's market, but also provides a higher quality of light. Some of the benefits of LED lighting include cool IR and UV-free beam, low energy consumption, high reliability and a very long lifetime. Compared with traditional incandescent light, LED lights operate longer and more efficiently. LEDs last longer than CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamp) and will make bulb buying more like an appliance purchase than a throw-away item. CFLs contains mercury and pose an environmental hazard and not accepted at all recycling centres. LEDs operate with chips made of nontoxic materials and last for about 50,000 hours, compared with 1,000 hours for an incandescent and 6,000 for a compact fluorescent. The benefits to the construction, industrial, fire and safety community are numerous.
The new area lighting systems being developed by the AALG and built by Peli Products are harnessing the power and energy-efficiency of Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology and taking it into new commercial applications. Peli Products is already delivering the 9450 Remote Area Lighting System, a battery-powered portable area lighting system that provides 15 hours of continuous light and approximately 50,000 hours bulb lifespan for such end users as nighttimes road construction crews, railway engineers and first responders – anyone that needs to illuminate a large area without the gas consumption, noise and air pollution associated with today's industrial diesel generator-powered lighting towers that use energy-zapping outdated light bulb technology.
Peli Products will unveil additional new products in the coming months as Blue i's products are integrated into the company. The company is in the prototype stage for both smaller and larger area lighting units that will become available later this year/early 2009. Quick recharge, solid state technology and RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliance ensures a robust product that complies with the most stringent safety requirements. LED, night vision, shelter lighting and energy storage are not only a part of future work at Peli's AALG, they can also be found in products launching this year.
