Power On Connections has handed over its first ever 33kV/11kV Primary substation to Central Networks, the electricity distribution company for central England.
The completion of the £2.5m project will provide 19.5MVA of firm capacity for the major ProLogis Park Pineham development in Northampton. Included is the provision of a complete 11kV supply system and highway lighting infrastructure.
This project, completed in full compliance with the National Electricity Registration Scheme, is significant in that it is the first primary substation ProLogis has placed with Power On Connections. With Pineham Primary being connected on time, Power On Connections has now secured a second primary substation with ProLogis.
The substation, commissioned by Power On Connections, includes 33kV switchgear, two 12/24MVA OFAF transformers, an 11kV switchboard feeding three local 11kV rings and all the associated control and protection equipment required for the substation to be adopted by Central Networks. The substation buildings and equipment plinths have been constructed by the developer’s own principal contractor, Buckingham Group, to detailed designs provided by Power On.
ProLogis Park Pineham is a 112 acre development, serving 1.7 million sq ft of industrial/distribution and the project has required extensive cabling works including approximately 8km of new 33kV circuits and 7km of new 11kV circuits to distribute the power around the development. The off-site cable routes have posed some significant challenges – not least of which was a major directional drill beneath both the river Nene and the Grand Union Canal simultaneously.
Energisation will be phased although the first customer, a major national supermarket, has already been connected ahead of schedule.
