Monitran launches the MTN/1310 tri-axial accelerometer

Monitran, a world leader in the design and manufacture of vibration sensors, has launched a compact and rugged tri-axial accelerometer. The MTN/1310 is particularly well-suited to aerospace applications but also lends itself to automotive and industrial use: indeed, any situation where vibration in any or all of the three spatial axes needs to be measured.

The sensor weighs only 35g, has a square base, measuring 25 x 25 mm, and is 25mm high. It incorporates three of Monitran’s renowned piezo-electric accelerometers, which afford good temperature capability and reliability, mounted in the X, Y and Z planes within a hermetically sealed stainless steel enclosure.

Chris Leede, Monitran’s Project Manager, comments: “Most three-axis measurements are made using three single-axis accelerometers mounted on a square block with separate leads. Because our tri-axial sensor has a single lead, installation is greatly simplified and the weight and cost of the measurement solution can be kept to a minimum.”

The MTN/1310 has a screened, four-core cable (one for each of the channels plus a common) and an in-line charge amplifier. The sensors are made to order, at which time the gain is set to match the customer’s application. Most sensors are shipped with a gain in the range 10 to 100pC/g.

Leede concludes: “Our tri-axial accelerometer is a cost-effective means of measuring cross-axis vibration in a variety of industrial applications, for example automotive crash testing, laboratory tests, drop tests and high impact applications”.

The sensor is sampling now, with production quantities scheduled for availability in early Q3. The retail price is predicted to be in the region of £380.00 + VAT.
