KBSE engineers bag more Schoolwork

After successfully completing all M&E services for four primary schools under a partnering framework package in Surrey, Kier Building Services Engineers (KBSE) has been chosen for another major school project this summer in the London Borough of Redbridge.

Kier’s specialist engineers will be working with the same contract team which carried out the work for Surrey County Council, which culminated in the opening last month of the largest of the four new schools, Walton Oak Primary in Walton on Thames.

KBSE’s M&E work accounted for more than £2 million of the £13 million Surrey Schools programme. The biggest slice was at Walton Oak, with over £1 million of services, including power and lighting, CCTV, fire alarms, security, and an extensive IT system. Mechanical services embraced comfort cooling to ICT rooms, low-pressure hot water heating through radiant panels, rainwater harvesting for external irrigation systems – plus a 30 ft high wind turbine providing educational benefits as well as energy-saving power for the school.

The Basingstoke-based company is now preparing to install a full range of M&E services worth over £2 million at a large three-storey primary to be built for Redbridge Council in South Ilford. In addition to power, heating, lighting, fire, security and data services, work on the new Cranbrook Primary will involve harvesting rainwater for flushing toilets and a natural ventilation system for classrooms. Starting early summer, the new school contract is the first in a series of framework projects by Redbridge Council.

Ray Manning, managing director of KBSE, said: “It is especially gratifying to have won this latest work on the strength of our recent performance in Surrey, where we helped our project partners to achieve completion five weeks ahead of schedule.”

A member of the Support Services Division of the Kier Group, Kier Building Services Engineers is a specialist engineering company offering design, project management, installation, commissioning and maintenance for all mechanical & electrical building services. KBSE won the M & E Contractor of the Year award for 2006.
