Prism partnership with Aphel provides a ‘Revelation’

Electrical Review Logo

Revelation technology, introduced to the market this Spring by the partnership between Prism and Aphel, is said to provide a step change electro-mechanical solution to escalating power management, metering and monitoring issues.

The technology is said to allow server managers to balance the explosion in hardware use with the increasing need to minimise carbon footprints. When volume-server power consumption in intensive IT environments can cost in excess of 30% of the upfront hardware price each year it operates, power control and monitoring is vital.

Revelation equipped Power Distribution Units (PDUs) are intelligent devices that offer real time knowledge of power consumption and provision. Embedded technology in a high security environment consolidates data, and provides an automated crisis management system. All measurement results can be accessed by SNMP, IPML, SMASH CLI or HTML interface.

This offers managers valid real time information about specific key demands of server processes. It can prevent rogue overloading, as in the case of connection of unauthorised plug-ins, and will turn off if not doing anything of value. It allows users to reboot remote servers and other network devices from the office or from anywhere in the world with an Internet logon capability.

Revelation PDUs will power on, power off, or reboot remote equipment, as well as monitor current, voltage and temperature. Monitoring is carried out on each individual socket, as opposed to the traditional method of monitoring the power strip in its entirety.

“We believe our customers will regard Revelation as a huge step forward “ said Dean Crook, managing director of Prism icab solutions. “ In this age of convergence and remote control, the product meets the needs of both facility and IT managers.”

Richard Vass, sales director of Aphel Ltd, added: We are confident that Revelation represents a step change forward in the ‘Intelligent Power’ market place. The integration of a highly advanced monitoring and control system takes our already proven systems to a new level.”

Revelation PDUs are 100% IP ready and available in 13A, 16A and 32 A ratings. They cater for 7360 watts at 230 volts. 0U, 1U and 2U units are available, and the strip features either 8,12,16 or 20 outlets. Standard security architecture includes SSL encryption, self contained authentication, and authentication against LDAP, MSAD, and NDS.
