Pyrotenax cables used in art gallery refurbishment

Electrical Review Logo

Pyrotenax MultiPlus LSF multi-purpose cable and Pyro S fire-rated cables, from Tyco Thermal Controls, have been used in the £27.9m New Century Project to refurbish Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
Optimising space and controlling total installed costs are among the major challenges for electrical engineers on any project. The handling characteristics of Multi-Plus LSF make it quick and easy to install and terminate. Although 66% lighter than 1kV armoured cable, it is flexible yet robust, and retains its installed shape and position. This cable has a Low Smoke and Fume (LSF) outer sheath for good fire performance. Rated at 600/1000V, Multi-Plus LSF has an aluminium screen that significantly reduces electrical interference to meet EMC requirements and delivers space savings by eliminating the need for compartmental trunking.
For the fire-rated applications in the refurbishment, Tyco Thermal Controls’ Pyro S standard grade cable system has been employed. This meets all the requirements set out in the revision of BS5839-1:2002.
