Racecourse redevelopment

As part of its major re-development, Ascot Racecourse has installed specialist Mineral Insulated Cabling (MIC) from AEI Cables.
The multi-million pound facelift of the sporting landmark has included the building of a traffic underpass below the course where impulse fans have been installed for safety in case of fire or any other incident which may contaminate the air.
The fans, ranging from 1.5kw-12kw, are powered by MIC and monitor the air and blow contaminated air out of the tunnel. The MIC was chosen for its fire performance qualities. It will not burn and continues to operate at temperatures up to the melting point of copper.
The cabling was installed by Manstal contractors of Birmingham and was supplied by Edmundson Electrical, West Bromwich.
Ascot closed for the re-development in October 2004 for both the track and the grandstand to undergo a major redevelopment programme, the largest of its type anywhere in Europe.
