Energywatch warms to EDF Energy’s fuel poverty move

The chief executive of Energywatch, Allan Asher, said: “Energywatch has consistently challenged energy suppliers to be innovative and develop tariffs that provide real protection from the scourge of fuel poverty for their most vulnerable customers. Some companies have begun to respond to that challenge and I warmly welcome EDF Energy’s latest move.

“On their own, energy companies can’t solve the problem of fuel poverty but if they are determined enough, as EDF Energy has shown, they can make a significant contribution. Against a backdrop of soaring energy bills and dire winter weather predictions, I urge all energy suppliers to take a leaf out of EDF Energy’s book and renew their efforts to look again at what action they can take to improve the quality of life for their hardest-pressed customers.”
