Decade of success in Sunderland

EDF Energy has celebrated its 10th anniversary in Sunderland.
When the company (formally London Electricity) relocated its customer operations activities to Sunderland in 1995, it was one of the first companies to do so, helping to start a trend that now sees some 10,000 people employed in the city’s customer services industry.

Since that time, EDF Energy has made a contribution to Sunderland’s revitalised local economy, helping the city recover from the decline of its traditional mining, shipbuilding and heavy industries.

At a time when many companies have moved their call centres overseas, EDF Energy has decided the best way to maintain customer service is to retain British call centres.
