Vanguard Healthcare Solutions, the leading provider of mobile surgery services to the NHS, is ensuring seamless power to its fully equipped operating theatre suites through a state-of-the-art power system provided by leading power support company, Merlin Power Management. Merlin has provided Vanguard Healthcare Solutions with a second power system for its mobile operating theatre suites at Harold Wood Hospital, Romford, Essex.

The latest installation is a super-silenced 275kVA generator equipped with dual automatic control panels, fuel tank, cabling and distribution equipment, all of which were installed and commissioned out of hours.

“Merlin Power Management has provided us with exceptional service”, says Steve Hudson, Director of Planning and Development at Vanguard Healthcare Solutions. “Our relationship with Merlin is so strong that they even advised us on providing power systems for our mobile units for rural communities in New South Wales, Australia.”

Vanguard Healthcare Solutions, who were acquired by independent not-for-profit hospital group Nuffield in October last year, pioneered the Visiting Hospital concept (mobile operating theatre suite plus eight-bed recovery unit) and today provides world-class surgical facilities where and when they are required in the UK and beyond. The Visiting Hospital combines a high-tech operating theatre with an anaesthetic room, three-bed recovery bay and an eight-bed recovery unit complete with bed head services and nurses station.

The company’s fleet of 14 fully equipped mobile operating suites, complete with a team of experienced nurses, work in partnership with the NHS across the nation to remove thousands of patients from the waiting list every year. Merlin Power Management is contracted by Vanguard Healthcare to provide standby power to these mobile units where and when mains power is either unavailable or cannot be guaranteed.

Merlin Power Management offers a range of services that include power analysis and consultancy, relocation and refurbishment, rental of generators and UPS, refuelling and installation services, and generator customisation. It also provides load bank testing, the installation and repair of bulk fuel storage tanks as well as the routine and emergency maintenance of generators, rectifiers and DC batteries.
