Channel 4's ground-breaking architectural series 'Grand Designs' is currently featuring the excitingly advanced home of Monty Ravenscroft and Claire Loewe in Peckham, South London – and Vent-Axia whole-house heat-recovery ventilation is very much part of the scene.
Making the absolute most of a very small and challenging site, the Grand Design by the fit-out architects Flower Michelin features a high single-storey open-plan layout, with central seating, dining and cooking areas integrated within a single space, which is dramatically lit through a slide-away overhead skylight. Sleeping and toilet accommodation are located in mezzanine structures within the overall building envelope.
The open-plan arrangement made efficient ventilation of the kitchen area especially important, so the Vent-Axia system is designed to extract cooking smells, excess heat and steam at source, and similarly to extract steamy, humid air from shower rooms, toilets and bathroom – continuously transferring the warmth to fresh air supplied by the system to the bedrooms and the seating and dining areas.
The overall air of excellence is directly complemented by the quietness and energy-efficiency of the Vent-Axia installation, which lends real practicality to the outstanding aesthetics of this remarkable building.
All-in-all, a Grand Design worthy of its television accolade!
