RCD-protected two-gang switched socket-outlets in flush, surface and flat-plate format are now available in Eaton’s latest MEMSTYLE range for applications where the circuit supplying the socket-outlet is not protected upstream by a residual current device or where tripping discrimination is required at the socket outlet.
RCD sockets offer protection against electrocution for users of electrical equipment – in particular power tools, lawnmowers, hedge trimmers and other garden appliances. They are also very useful in schools, colleges, factories and laboratories where more local protection avoids loss of complete circuits. They also help reduce the risk of fires caused by earth faults in older equipment connected through the socket-outlet.
The MEMSTYLE RCD-protected socket-outlets are available with 10mA or 30mA sensitivity as active or passive devices. Active units must be re-set after any interruption to the power supply. Passive units have contacts that remain closed through an interruption to the power supply. They are intended for use with appliances such as refrigerators and freezers where it is important that normal operation is resumed after an interruption to the power supply. A test button and re-set button are provided and a red flag indicates that the RCD is ‘On’.
The new RCD-protected socket-outlets are available in all of the extensive finishes offered in the popular MEMSTYLE range. Flush units include white moulded plates and metal plates in stainless steel, highly polished, satin bronze, Monarch, brass and Victorian & Georgian brass finishes. In common with other units in the latest MEMSTYLE range they have outboard rocker switches. Red moulded units are also available for applications where it is important to identify the socket-outlet. Meanwhile a choice of white or black moulded inserts is offered to suit the décor.
The flat plate range follows the modern trend to flat, ultra-slim metal plates, only 1.5mm thick. The range is available in eight standard finishes but is also offered in a choice of 180 RAL colours. A special feature of the flat plate range is the option to have plates produced in special shapes or with special combinations of accessories (socket-outlets, telephone outlets, TV/FM/satellite outlets etc.). This latter facility could include the new RCD-protected socket-outlets.
The new RCD socket complements the recently introduced MEMSTYLE socket-outlet range ensuring total harmony of style for all types of socket in a particular project. Two earth terminals come as standard on the new RCD socket and on all double-pole standard switched socket outlets so that a reliable earth connection can be assured on ring circuits feeding IT equipment.
The new flush (moulded and metal plate) RCD-protected socket-outlets will fit a two-gang box with a depth of 25mm or more while the flat plate units require a minimum depth of 35mm. Large backed-off terminals, clear dual-terminal markings, and single-screwdriver wiring and fixing are other installer-friendly features of MEMSTYLE socket-outlets.
