A new central heating system that also generates electricity is being fitted in over 500 homes in Manchester.

The units are intended to provide up to two thirds of the power needed for a typical house. Homeowners on The Way Estate in east Manchester, where the boilers are being installed, can also sell any surplus back to the national grid. It is claimed using the boilers could save a family of four £150 each year while also reducing emissions.
