Further delay to WEEE regs

The DTI has announced still further delay to publication of the long-awaited regulations covering UK implementation of the Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.

The government was originally required to transpose the new rules into UK law by 13 August last year but was unable to meet this deadline and subsequently promised to do so by the end of 2004. That deadline was also missed but a statement by a DTI spokesperson in January promised an announcement about the new rules on the take-back and processing of WEEE would be published within weeks.
