55% reduction in space requirement

Puls UK has introduced a new series of DIN-rail mounted switched mode power supplies (SMPS) which reduce panel space requirements by up to 55%. After four years of development work, Puls engineers have succeeded in increasing efficiencies to 95%. Puls also claims to be the first manufacturer of power supplies to specify a service life of at least 50,000 hours at 40°C.
The new Puls Dimension Q-Series consists of five models, three for single-phase operation – 24V/3A, 24V/5A and 24V/10A – and two for 3-phase operation – 24V/20A and 24V/40A. The 3-phase QT20 with a typical operating efficiency of 94.8%, for example, has a width of just 65mm. This represents a reduction of 57% in DIN-rail requirement compared to the Puls SilverLine model it replaces. The QS10 single-phase 10A unit is half the width of its predecessor.
A new ‘Power Bonus’ feature ensures all the Dimension Q-Series SMPS can react to fluctuations in load, enabling them o deliver up to 50% additional power for four seconds when necessary. Thanks to a reduction in wasted thermal energy, the interior of the power supplies remain cool, ensuring a long life for the electrolytic capacitors and, hence, the units as a whole. Other components in the cabinet also benefit from the greatly reduced thermal output.
All the Dimension Q-Series SMPS feature active power factor correction and have a range of approvals including UL and CE, as well as patented designs. They will start up at temperatures from as low as -40°C and up to +70°C.
