A contract to manufacture sonobuoys, devices that can be dropped from helicopters to detect underwater objects by intercepting acoustic waves, has been awarded to TTems.

The contract from Ultra Electronics is worth £6m over the next 10 years and is to share manufacturing of all sonobuoys in support of Ultra Electronics’ partnership with the Ministry of Defence.

TTems, a subsidiary of global electronics manufacturing company TT electronics, will manufacture the underwater detectors at its Rogerstone facility in Wales.
