The Westminster Energy, Environment & Transport Forum Keynote Seminar takes place on the morning of Tuesday, 16 October 2018 in central LondonThe agenda includes keynote contributions from Matt Clarke, deputy director, Nuclear Generation & International, BEIS; Joe Perkins, chief economist, Ofgem; Tom Samson, chief executive officer, NuGen and Paul Westbury, group technical director, Laing O’Rourke.
The seminar follows the recent announcement that the Government have entered into negotiations with Hitachi in relation to the proposed Wylfa Newydd project, and places have been reserved by officials from BEIS; DIT; Government Legal Department; HMRC; HM Treasury; HSE; NAO and the Planning Inspectorate.
Delegates will consider latest thinking on how to address the challenges for bringing down the costs of nuclear power while maintaining safety in the context of the Clean Growth Strategy’s commitment to delivering new nuclear power through Hinkley Point C.
Planned sessions will assess the role of nuclear power in ensuring the UK’s energy security as coal generation is phased out, as well as priorities for effectively incentivising innovation in the context of the Nuclear Innovation fund to support future nuclear fuels, new nuclear manufacturing techniques, recycling and reprocessing, and advanced reactor design.
The organiser expects discussion to bring out latest thinking on the environmental impact of nuclear projects, particularly in the areas of waste and construction following a government consultation on decommissioning as well as on the international investment climate for the industry, and prospects for a sector deal.
