NICEIC and ELECSA recently held their Live North event, which this year focused on the electrification of transport and the impact the 18th edition of the BS 7671 has had on the industry since its publication last year.
More than 400 electricians attended the Live North Event, which was held at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. Those electricians were treated to a variety of technical seminars, breakout sessions and discussions led by some of the nation’s leading electrical experts.
Electric vehicle advocate and founder of Electric Vehicles Outlook Ltd, Roger Atkins, kicked off the show with a presentation on the electric vehicle revolution around the world and how electrical contractors across the UK should prepare themselves with what’s to come from this emerging market.
He discussed the latest innovations coming into vehicle manufacturing, demonstrating the shift from traditional combustion engines into newer and cleaner energy and how technology has now made it more viable business to financially survive and thrive in the EV market.
“The electrification of combustion engines and other areas of the home provides a wealth of opportunities for contractors” commented Atkins.
“From vehicle manufacturers to oil companies, the wave of cleaner and greener energy is crying out for technically competent electricians to play a crucial role in delivering the electrical revolution.
“However, this cannot be done alone. Electricians, manufacturers and regulatory bodies like NICEIC and ELECSA need to do all they can to promote and encourage young people across all demographics to get stuck in and play their part.”
Other speakers on the day included technical experts from NICEIC and ELECSA including Darren Staniforth, Jake Green and Tim Benstead who discussed some of the common questions to come out of the 18th Edition of BS7671 Wiring Regulations.
For the first time ever, NICEIC and ELECSA Live North was a CPD accredited event, meaning that attendees could use their learnings from the day as part of their ongoing professional development.
John O’Neill, director for technical excellence for NICEIC and ELECSA, said: “Our Live events are a great way for us and other stakeholders in the industry to get out of our offices, meet contractors, and discuss the latest happenings in the industry today.
“Seeing the room packed with more than 400 electricians demonstrates the drive and determination that NICEIC and ELECSA registered contractors have to update their knowledge and take advantage in this developing industry.”
