Rugged connector claimed smallest on market

Electrical Review Logo

The LC fibre optic connector series recently launched by Bulgin has been designed for use in harsh environments and is believed to be the smallest rugged optical connector available on the market. The 4000 Series Fiber Simplex connector can be used for outdoor broadcast, FTTX (fiber to the x), server room engineering, civil engineering, marine, aviation and rail applications. The connector’s small form factor is particularly useful where installation space is limited, or multiple connectors need to be accommodated.

Featuring a secure quick twist (30°) bayonet connection, the connector accommodates durable mechanical mating. Its industry standard LC interfaces (IEC 61754-20) features colour coded O-rings and washers for ease of identification. Mounting body options include Flex, Flex In-Line, and Rear Panel styles.

With extremely low insertion loss (average: < 0.1 dB, max: 0.2 dB), the series offers reliable performance regardless of the application environment, it is claimed. With its IP68-rated sealing caps, the connector provides protection against dirt and water ingress (fully submersed up to 2 weeks at 10m), the connector is ideal for typical outdoor installations such as underground, on antennae and mounted on utility poles.

The Polyamide UL94-V0 flame retardant moulding is IEC 61300-2 tested to operate between -25°C and 70°C. For marine applications, the product also offers connectivity with salt spray resistance (tested to EN60068-2-52 Test Kb Salt Mist [Cyclic] Marine Severity Level 1).
