NET will partner with WorldSkills UK to organise this year’s SkillElectric competition – the search for the UK’s best apprentice electrician.

The two charities will work together to plan and deliver the regional finals of the competition, which will see hundreds of electrical apprentices carry out a series of practical tests based on the typical workplace scenarios faced by electricians. They will also organise the national final, part of the WorldSkills UK Competitions, which is held at the NEC in Birmingham between 17th and 19th November as part of the Skills Show.

“After many years as a premium sponsor, I’m delighted NET will be joining WorldSkils UK to organise SkillElectric 2016,” says NET CEO Iain Macdonald. “The competition provides an opportunity for the best in our industry to showcase their abilities and to show people outside our industry the level of skill and technical excellence required to work as an electrician. This is hugely important at a time when the industry is in need of new blood, and more young people are considering the vocational route when they leave school.”

Speaking on behalf of WorldSkills UK Competitions, Dr Neil Bentley, said: “I would like to thank NET for their support of the WorldSkills UK Competitions.

“Working together, we are able to design skills competitions that help meet employers’ skills needs, ensuring the competitions remain an important mechanism for raising standards in apprenticeship and training programmes and attracting more young people into vocational careers routes across the UK.”
