The 2012 Hannover Messe trade fair will take place from 23-27 April at the Hannover exhibition centre in Germany.

Sustainable development and energy efficiency are two driving forces behind the growing global markets in renewable energy, transportation and motor control (variable speed drives and inverters). Power electronics applications are to be found at the heart of these growing markets.

Mersen (hall 13, stand E59) has strengthened its positioning in the power electronics market throught the acquisition of Eldre, with a view to supporting its manufacturing clients by providing the range of critical components required to develop ever safer and more dependable equipment. Mersen’s enhanced product offering includes expertise in busbars, cooling systems and semiconductor safety fuses.

In addition to offering the most advanced technology in cooling systems, circuit breakers and power interconnection, Mersen assists its client partners in optimising the design of equipment architecture for increased energy efficiency.

Operating in the solar power market, Mersen has identified an increased need for universal and high-quality monitoring systems. Mersen’s HelioProtection junction boxes can now be fitted with embedded electronic cards to monitor solar panel strings. Starting with one main electronic cards, auxiliary electronic cards can be added in order to monitor between six and 30 solar panel strings, making it possible to detect problems as they occur by identifying their precise location in the string. The benefits include proactive maintenance, an increase in the energy performance of the system (an improved rate of energy actually produced compared with theoretical energy production) and more secure return on investment, with greater profits and better managed operational costs.

Mersen’s HelioProtection junction boxes incorporating self-powered monitoring electronic cards enable various monitoring and diagnostic functions to be embedded in order to manage energy generation and equipment maintenance.

The investment necessary for a solar panel string monitoring system is low in comparison to the overall investment for the solar power system as a whole, but in contrast, the increase in profits is considerable.
