Power protection and control

Electrical Review Logo

FDB Electrical, a specialist in power distribution/control, has announced its FDB27 range of Hangar Power Distribution Cubicles (PDC) which has proved to be the benchmark for individual circuit protection in RAF Bases around the world. Designed in accordance with MOD and PSA specifications, the FDB27 range provides electrical protection and control for power supplies to ground support equipment in hangars, workshops and garages.

Each FDB27 unit features push button control RCD protection and ECM Earth continuity monitoring c/w shortened pilot pin sockets and plugs allowing disconnection of supply before the plug main contacts break. Voltages available are 220/240V, 380/415V @ 50/60Hz and with ratings of 16A, 32A, 63A and 125A with standard 30mA RCD. Output is by means of a fitted socket outlet to EN 60309-1 (TB03/05) complete with dedicated pilot contact, but special versions are available for supplies to emergency vehicles and to hazardous areas.

For emergency use, all units in the FDB27 range containing Earth Continuity Monitors are provided with diode polarity selectors and changeover switches to facilitate immediate power supply to portable equipment with incorrectly connected or missing diode protection.

As well as the standard combined RCD/ECM type, other versions can be supplied with choice of RCD or ECM protection only – the latter being recommended for essential supplies to radar cabins etc. The special FDB27 "Malvern" type is also available for Optronics buildings or direct supplies to technical vehicles with high levels of inherent earth leakage current due to power line filters.
