UK boasts some of the lowest electricity prices in Europe

The UK has some of the lowest electricity prices in Europe, whereas Ireland has some of the highest, according to a report issued by consultancy firm Accenture.

European Electricity Price Review covers the electricity markets of the 15 countries that were members of the EU before its enlargement in 2004. It reveals an enormous variation in the electricity prices of different countries and suggests that those countries with the highest degree of competition have the lowest prices.

The UK and Finland have the first and the second lowest pre-tax prices in Europe, with Finland having the fourth lowest wholesale and distribution charges and the UK having the cheapest distribution. Ireland and Germany have the highest and second highest pre-tax prices,
