London Underground stabilises voltage

London Underground has installed voltage stabilisers from Claude Lyons, chosen in part because of the implementation of a successful solution for Hong Kong's Kowloon Canton Rail Company, which presented a similar supply voltage problem. Tube Lines, responsible for the maintenance and renewal of the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines, tasked its principal contractor, Emcor, with providing a solution to ensure that a stable supply of electricity was maintained to all stations.

Tube Lines is investing £550m in station modernisation over the first seven years of its contract with London Underground. Many of the improvements will make additional demands on the electricity supply,
