Siemens launches high-speed switching solid-state contactors

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is supplementing its product range of Sirius solid-state switching devices with versions for frequent switching of motors.

These new 3-phase solid-state contactors have two-phase control throughout and can switch motors up to 7.5 kilowatts.

The new solid-state switching devices are offered in construction widths of 45 and 90 millimetres depending on power rating. A special reversing contactor version can be used for three-phase AC motors up to three kilowatts in anticlockwise-clockwise rotation.

Through integration into the Sirius modular system, the new solid-state switching devices can be set up quickly and simply with a connecting device and a Sirius circuit breaker as compact, fuseless motor feeders.

In addition, fused motor feeders can also be implemented in conjunction with an Sirius overload relay.

Depending on system requirements, the user can choose between voltage versions up to 480 or 600 volts. The 24 volt DC control voltage guarantees safe operation on digital controllers, and in simple circuit arrangements versions with control voltages of 230 volts AC can also be used.

For installation, spring-loaded terminals for applications with high shock and vibration loads are offered in addition to screw-type terminals. The removable control connector enables pre-wiring of the control circuit and thus fast setup of the complete motor feeder.

Integral interlocking in the solid-state reversing contactor ensures safe operation in the case of anticlockwise-clockwise rotation.
