JTL has named Solihull-based Louis Quinn as its Electrical Apprentice of the Year for the Midlands region.

Following a successful apprenticeship with National Property Solutions firm, Fortem (Orbit) through JTL Birmingham Training Centre, Louis’ victory was announced at a celebratory event at The Jurys Inn, Hinckley, on Friday 28 of February, where he was presented with a £100 cheque and glass trophy. Louis, who was recognised by his training officer for his progress both academically and practically, has now been shortlisted to represent the Midlands against seven other regional electrical winners at JTL’s National Awards, which will take place in London on 2 June.

JTL electrical training officer, Ray Smith, said, “Throughout his apprenticeship, Louis was extremely proactive in both gathering evidence for his portfolio and in arranging meetings with myself to ensure he was on track. In essence, he owned his own apprenticeship and this is what drove him to complete it so successfully.

“Louis completed his training with 100% commitment and quickly became an asset to both myself and his employer. Other electricians within the business would often go to Louis for help when completing larger jobs, as they knew he would get on with whatever was required of him and always worked to a high standard. Well done Louis.”

Louis, who currently holds an EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment, added, “As soon as I was placed with my employer, I was sure that the apprenticeship route was the right one for me, as I really enjoyed getting stuck in and learning on the job. I was really lucky to have an employer who would give me so much responsibility, which really helped my confidence. I hope this will encourage young people who are considering apprenticeships that you don’t always need to go to university to achieve a good career.”
