JTL has named Arbertillery-based Nathan Rimes as its Electrical Apprentice of the Year in the Welsh region.

Following a successful apprenticeship with local firm, Powerlink Electrical Services, Nathan’s victory was announced at a celebratory event at the Vale Hotel and Spa in Hensol, on Thursday 12 March, where he was presented with a £100 cheque and glass trophy. Nathan, who was recognised by his training officer for his progress both academically and practically, has now been shortlisted to represent Wales against seven other regional electrical winners at JTL’s National Awards, which will take place in Autumn.

JTL electrical training officer, Rhys Regan, commented, “Nathan has demonstrated to me he is more than deserving of this award through his outstanding development since the beginning of his course, both personally and professionally. He is the perfect example to his peers that with hard work, self-belief and persistence, you can successfully complete the framework and become a valuable asset to your employer.

“Not only have I witnessed Nathan become a mature individual and skilled worker, he has produced one of the most thorough, well presented NVQ portfolios I have ever seen. This is a result of Nathan always going above and beyond in all of his reports, to prove to both myself and his employer every day that he has a fantastic knowledge of all aspects of electrical installation. Well deserved Nathan.”

Nathan, who currently holds EAL and AM2 electrical qualifications, said, “When I first started out at foundation level, I wasn’t 100% sure the course was for me, and looking back, it is clear I was lacking in drive and commitment to complete my work. Because of this, I am incredibly grateful to the teaching staff at JTL for sticking by me and for giving me the encouragement and support I needed to succeed. I can now safely say completing my apprenticeship has been the best decision I have ever made. The experience has opened so many doors for me, and I am focused on remaining in my current employment and achieving as much as possible for both myself, and for them as a business.’’
